About Me

With a life-long interest in History it was perhaps natural that I should study the subject at university. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in History from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1986. The following year I gained my MA at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London.

Following a number of roles in I.T. I decided on a change of career and a return to historical research. I have a particular interest in the First World War. I am a regular visitor to the battlefields of the Western Front in relation to my own particular research interests.

These focus on the 8th Btn King’s Royal Rifle Corps with whom my great-uncle was serving when he was killed in action in July 1916. As a result of researching his story I have become very familiar with a number of sectors of the Western Front including the Ypres Salient and the Somme and Arras battlefields.

My research takes me to a number of leading archives including the ones listed here. I am a member of the Western Front Association and the Society of Genealogists and participate on a number of discussion forums and rootsweb mailing lists.
